I believe that the USAF could benefit from a sign-on bonus for those that wish to sign up early. The other branches do have that benefit. I am presently 17 and am being recruited by Sergeant Pearce in Amarillo. The only regret that I have about choosing the USAF is that I won't get the full 40K nor a sign-on bonus. I am still going to join, but I believe that the number of rectuits will increase significantly if the options were a little more like the other braches. The USAF is the smartest, but appears to offer less to young seniors like myself.

Thank you,

James

In every airforce magizine all anyone evertalks about is planes. Yeah the main misson of the Air Force is to get aircraft into the air but there is more to the airforce than just planes. Iam an 18yr old Firefighter at Charleston AFB and wanted to see more articals on what firefighters do and how they contribute to the mission. Becasue you cannot get planes into the air or land with out firefighters. So i just wanted to see more stories or articals about firefighters. Thank you.

Tim/ Charleston AFB, SC

editor: We'll try to do so . Tim, would you send your e-mail to us, or contact the young man who wrote the letter that follows this note??

Anyone who can answer his questions, please feel free to do so

I have a question for you. There was a guy by the name of Tim from Charleston AFB, SC who wrote to you about being a firefighter in the USAF. You posted his question on the UASF ideas from our visitors page it's the second one down. I was wondering if you had his email address because I wanted to talk to him as me being a 17 yearold who did early desision signup with the USAF. I am a volunteer firefighter in my small town of Jonesport, Maine and wanted to ask him a few questions b/c I can't find any information on the firefighting career in the USAF. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx / s2h78@hotmail.com

In finding that there are no accurate weather sources on the net I would incourage The USAF to include links to the different bases that would provide an accurate report for the public.

Since Dover Air Base is close by I looked to see if I could find it on the net, however, my search has only brought me here. I believe The USAF does a much more accurate job at forcasting weather, and would like to see links placed concerning this issue.

Thank you for your time.

Fires

Many years ago during a local forest fire I was a weather observer for the forest service, their prime concern was directed at reports of temperature and humidity. Fires like high temps and low humidity. The USAF conducts regular training missions with the transports, i.e., C-130,C-141,and C-5A, to maintain the pilots proficiency and aircraft state of readiness. Could we use some of the large bladders that are designed to transport liquids on trucks and planes to carry water to the fire areas and spray the area from 1,000 - 2,000 ft altitude, creating an artificial rain, to increase humidity and lower the temp. Maintaining the higher altitude would keep the planes out of the way of regular fire retardant bombers and helicopters which are dropping pinpoint waterloads and yet there would be a positive effect on slowing the spread of the wildfires and forest fires. At the same time the pilots and crews would be working with and receiving valuable training with ground forces and other services.

Just a possible way to put some of our resources to work battling our oldest enemy-FIRE.

thanks

Why isn't there a listing of people who have received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Medal of Honor on the USAF site? I served with the USAF, SAC, and I know of several people who earned
that distinction, but now seem forgotten.

I noticed that you have the F-117 Nighthawk in the fighter section of your website. While it is called the F-117 Stealth Fighter, it is used strictly in a bombing role. I think you should consider changing the category it is in.

I have just reviewed the photos of the past or current air shows. They were very interesting to me and I hope that you post more. Since I was just a very little girl I had dreamed of flying and now possibly my dreams may just be coming true. I had a recruiter come to my school a few weeks ago and I have kept every brochure and every paper I had received on the Air Force. I check out the *Air Force* web sites all the time and found this web site the most interesting of all keep up the good work and keep posting those hard to find pictures.

Air Force Memorabilia

I've searched and searched many sites. The only items available to show that you served with pride in the USAF all have the old WWII Air Force Insignia on them. Why don't we have a site (other than the USAFAA Store, which incidentally I was unable to purchase anything from since it apparently was not working) with some current Air Force Patches, Insignia, T-shirts, jackets etc. etc. Everywhere you look you see USMC and ARMY product. No wonder we're having a recruiting problem! Would appreciate any info you can supply.
Thanks.

Air Rescue and Recovery Service? Why is there so little told about this part of the Air Force? Not many pictures of the helicopters they used such as the HH-3E, HH-53, or HH-60?

Not much told about the para-rescue career or even the helicopter pilot, FE or Crew Chiefs that keep the fighter pilots out of trouble?

The B-25 Briefing Time

You were looking for information about your father's sq. That was the 340th bomb group, not the 34th. I live in Reading Pa. We have a B-25 at our air museum named the " Briefing Time". We fly it to air shows, mostly on the east coast. It has the crew roster on the side of the aircraft. The pilot Buzz Taylor, and all the rest of the crew are well known to all of us. I can't tell you the whole story of how we got the air plane, but it was named in honor of the original crew. You can see it at our air museum, along with lots of other ww-2 aircraft. If you send me your address i will send you a picture of it. paulpatsh@aol.com.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bob Lachance Jr. I am the owner/moderator of a "Yahoogroup" of over 200 USAF Veterens and Dependents who were stationed at a once active duty base of the USAF. The vast majority of my members were stationed at Loring AFB, Maine. This base is now closed.

I was an active duty member of the USAF for 6 years. I would like to know if any of the members of my group may be of assistance to any current Airman in the United States Air Force. While I was on active duty in the USAF I would write home on a regular basis. Although my family understood much of the experiences I was going through while I was on active duty, I felt that my father was the only one who could relate properly to my many varied experiences while on active duty. My father was Army/Air Force for over 5 years.

In the past I have seen in a number of "advice" columns such as "Dear Abby" and similar type column an address where regular citizens could become a "Pen Pal" on in the current state of internet email, "Email Pal".

In my travels in the USAF I have met some Airman who had few family members to correspond with during their time while on active duty. I would like to volunteer my group as a resource for any Airman who may not have the benefit of having family or loved ones to correspond with on a regular basis.

I always looked forward to receiving mail from my family back in the CONUS. If I didn't receive mail from my family I wondered if the mail was just delayed or lost in transit. Both can occur within the military.

In closing, I would like to volunteer the membership of my "Yahoogroup" as sponsors for any young Airman who may be away from their families or loved ones for the first time.

My group owner email address is Loring_AFB-Owner@yahoogroups.com . My personal email address is kc7rje@hotmail.com. If my group of over 200 former military veterans and dependents can be of help to any of the current Airman of the United States Air Force please let me know what I can do to help.

Sincerely,

Bob Lachance Jr. / Owner/Moderator / Loring AFB Yahoogroups

I am looking for information about the system used in WWII whereby a downed Allied pilot found his way out of hostile territory by means of matching his 1/2 of a bill (say a Franc) that had been torn in half; the pilot keeping one half and the person in the underground having the other half which they both matched up, thereby proving to one another their association. The underground contact would then escort there pilot to safety.

Have you any information as I am making a display for a friend who came by such a torn bill from a fighter pilot in WWII. I would appreciate any help you could give me or any direction you could steer me to.
Thanks again,
Leroy Kisling / animalhouse17@home.com

Can We Help?
I am an old Vietnam Veteran with a broken back, but I am ready and willing to do anything asked of me by my Government. I was a Director of Data Processing for the State of Maryland, and I have extensive police training, having been in the Maryland State Police. I am 58 now, but more than willing to put my uniform back on and fight for my country. I know it may seem odd, but I could still do a lot for the USAF if needed. Please let those in authority know that there are many of us around my age that feel this way, and who are ready if called. Thanks, and may God Bless America! George M. Suggs, Jr. AF13813284 Retired

This has absolutely nothing to do with politics, but since Rush smokes cigars...I started a project(link below) to provide comfort items for the deployed troops. We have plenty of volunteers helping to knit/crochet/sew items to keep feet, hands, ears, heads warm. We're also sending personal care items, i.e. Chapstick, sunscreen, lotion, and snacks. One of the senior enlisted personnel who has helped make this possible mentioned he'd give anything for a good cigar.

Knowing nothing about cigars, except that I don't like their smell, and knowing Rush would know...Could I get a suggestion that will not bankupt us? I've stopped in a couple of stores here in Central Florida, and there are so many varieties, most of them far beyond our budget. All I need is "one good cigar." Thanks for any suggestions.

Sweet su mustang P 51 D

Hallo, My name is George.A. Ormsby dob 10 05 38. I served whith The 22nd Cheshire Regiment here in Germany and married and stayed after my demobilisation 1966. Here is an article taken from our local newspaper dated 6 April 2002.

Monday 27th November 1944.

American bombers over Muenster Northrein Westfalen, escorted by Mustang fighters,At 1205 hrs German anti-aircraft fire, mustang P51D was hit and downed, named SWEET SU. The remains of Sweet Su have now been found; landing carriage,50mm board cannon plus 120kg of other parts registration name plate from H and A Manufacturing. It is known that the mustangs took off from Bodney Norfolk England.

It is also known that the Pilot was a POW and in several camps in Germany, but was released at end of WW2 and returned to The U.S.A. His name is Captain,Walter Simpson-Smith, I thought this article might be of interest to your Veterans Association, maybe the Captain or some of his Comrades are still around and might like to know that "Sweet Su" HAS BEEN FOUND after 58 years.

Request for Prayers

At 10am this morning I received a prayer request from church. Cathy Mitchell, who attends Spring Hills, called in to our secretary. Her husband, Tony, is an Air Force Commander in Afghanistan.

She received an urgent email from him this morning. It said, "We need Christians to pray, pray, pray. We're in a Blood Bath here!" Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Pass this on to as many as you think will respond.

Prayer Wheel

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior

Prayer Wheel

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our ground troops in Afghanistan. There is nothing attached.... This can be very powerful.... Just send this to all the people in your address book. Do not stop the wheel, please.... Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Prayer is the very best one.....

Dear Sir/ Madam......I am researching Elvis Presley's brief stopover at Prestwick Airport in March 1960. At the time Prestwick was the home to USAF 1631 and he paid a visit to the staff there. This research is for a proposed tv documentary on the Historic visit. I would like to contact anyone who was at the base at the time and can recall the visit but, in particular, I would love to contact the following people...

Col. Russell Fisher../ Chief Executive Officer Major Ed Miller../ Admin Officer Major Ben Bacchus.

I believe that Major Miller retired to Ayrshire Scotland after his military service but, other than that dubious information, I have few leads to follow. Obviously, given that the visit was over 40 years ago, I feel that I must apologise in advance for any insensitivity connected to my research as all three of the named officers could now be deceased.

Many Thanks for your help.
