The C-7A Caribou was transferred from the Army to USAF 1 Jan 67. I was
assigned to the 92nd Aviation Company Sep 66 at Qui Nhon. On 1 Jan 67 we
were then designated the 459th Troop Carrier Squadron and moved to Phu Cat
(a new base still under construction). This picture of a newly repainted
C-7A was taken on the temporary ramp at Phu Cat - the move to the new flightline
at Phu Cat was made in late July 1967. In my 12 years in the USAF, the 459th
was the only flying unit I was ever assigned to (I was an Administrative
Clerk). For half of the remaining 11 years I was assigned to a location
with no runway (a radar site for 3 years) and NO BASE (office location in
US Embassy, Manila for 2-1/2 years). Larry Schiff USAF Feb 57 - Feb 69
