Dear Sir,
on September
3 1948 a B-29 (serial 44-62100) of the 20 Bomber Squadron/2 Bomb Group of the
USAF, temporarily based at Lakenheath, didn't return from an exercice-flight.
According to a source in the USA it probably crashed in the sea 25 n.m. NE from
Brussels around 3 p.m. (afternoon) Some aviation-enthusiasts are trying to locate
the wreck. As I am working at a State-archive (Zeeuws Archief in Middelburg) in
the Netherlands I could look further here if I have more information on the crash-location.
The crew bailed out near Vlissingen and the plane was last seen near Terneuzen
so I presume it crashed near Rilland-Bath in the Westerschelde (or near Tholen
in the Oosterschelde?) It's strange the serial 44-62100 is not mentioned in USAF-serial-lists
on Internet. As if this aircraft did not exist. Please can you help me or give
me a good information-source to get further ?

At
the attention of U.S. Air Force,
I'm a 20 years-old student
of aerospatial engineering in Turin, and I'm writing dowm a relation, for my examinations,
about Lockheed SR- 71 "Blackbird". But I found some problems on doing
it, because I couldn't find some essetial information about the plane: for
example, how many fuel thanks it has, what is their capacity (volumetric), and
if there's a sort of decanting of fuel during the passage sub- sonic/super-sonic
flight speed.
More over, where is posted the baricenter of
the plane (empty and full of fuel), what are weight distributions (engines, cameras,
etc.) and the functional scheme of Pratt & Whitney J58 engines. These are
the information I'd like to obtain from You, if it's possible, of course. If You
think it's better I can send You a copy of my relation (I think I'll finish it
for July) before giving it to my teachers... As personal curiosity, I'd like
to know what is the higher speed ever achieved by SR-71 (also in its variant YF-12
and M-12) or A-12 and what is the higher altitude ever reached by it.
If
You can answer me giving to me these information I thank You very much. If You
ca't, well, thank You the same. For every news, question, or simply some explanation,
make reference to
this e-mail address.

Summer job in an usaf base...
I
just visited your website and since it is very good, I thought you might know
about this very special thing I wanted to know...First, let me introduce myself
: my name is Frédérique Baud, I'm a french student (in maths and
physics) and I really want to become a fighter pilot. The thing is, I've spent
4 months in united states and I would love to go back there this summer, and as
you can guess, to work with planes... Therefore, I was wondering if it would be
possible for me to apply for a job or stay for a while to help out, in an Air
Force base. I know that students can do that in France...and I really want to
know more about being a military pilot.
I'm expecting your
answer, thanks for helping !

Planes of
the Past
I just had a couple questions about where to go for
some information. My father, Carl Dean Bailey, passed away in 1994. While talking
to my mother recently I learned some interesting and funny air stories about him.
One being that while he was stationed at Mather Field near Sacramento in the late
1940's or early 1950's, he was flying one of the "B" bombers on a training
flight and being the rebel he was, flew under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
with it. I would like to know where I can get his military records and if this
was ever recorded. She said he had to walk the flight line (ramp) several hours
while packing his parachute.
After the war in the late '50's
and early 60's he and a friend bought several scrapped P51 Mustangs at Davis-Montham
Air Field in Tucson and repaired and sold them. One of them was the "Pink
Lady" he even painted and flew to Alaska for a customer. He taught Billy
Roosevelt to fly and I think sold him a P51. There was also an older Indy 500
driver taught to fly the 51. He ferried several of the P51's to New York for the
French Government and from there they were shipped to France.
Would
there be any government records of these sales of scrapped airplanes? Any information
would be appreciated. Please forward this to anyone you might know that could
be of help.

I have a vague recollection from perhaps the
WWII era of hearing, or reading, a Pilot's Prayer, but have had no luck inquiring
from friends, or searching on certain USAF websites of anyone being able to come
up with such a prayer. This is not a humorous prayer, but one that I think I'd
like to use at a friend's memorial service....he retired as a Lt. Colonel in the
Air Force and died at the age of 85 this year.
This is just
a personal quest for this very good friend. His family is handling the memorial
service, but I'm hoping I might be able to find the prayer to read at the service.
An
Air Force Recruiting office did send me a poem entitled "High Flight",
but this is not exactly what I had in mind. I'm fairly certain this goes back
to WWII. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
very much,

It was the Missing Aircrew Report.
I was wondering if someone
could translate longitude/lat coordinates to show me on a map where the plane
was last seen? They were headed back to Foggia, Italy and were following a river
valley.
Excerpt: Between the last mentioned position of 42/18N,
21/00E and where we broke out on the coast at 42/18N, 16/ 53E we were in slushy
snow & heavy icing conditions for 45-50 minutes and were forced to use our

Subj: Greenland Airbases
From: HCervan102@AOL.Com
Dear
Barry: I am aware of 2 bases. During WW ll, Bluie West 1 was situated on the southwest
coast at the end of a long narrow fijord. There was only one way in and one way
out and there was insufficient space to go-around for a second attempt to land.
The runway was short with an imposing concrete wall at the end of it to guard
buildings from any aircraft that might land long.
As one neared the wall,
big signs on either side of the runway advised."Cut Your Switches".
The other, Thule Air Base is better known. It was part of USA's Ballistic Missile
Early Warning System (BMEWS). A fighter squadron and Nike missiles guarded the
base from air attack. And if rumors are to be believed, our only protection from
ground attack was backscatter from
the super powerful electronic signals emitted
by the monstrous radarantennas.
They would sterilize a man in a second. HCervan102@AOL.com

I am in the process of restoring a
BT-13A Vultee Valiant. I have the following information on the plane, but would
like to see if anyone out there has pictures, information or would allow me to
call them to talk about this plane and the possible group this plane was in. It
is Serial # 41-10989 (2960), it was received on Feb. 14, 1942 and was initially
assigned to the AAF Basic Flying School, Gunter AAF, Montgomery AL. It went to
the AAF Basic Flying School, Sumpter AAF, SC on Feb. 28, 1942. It remained there
until Jul. 18, 1944, when it was placed in storage at Warner Robins Air Depot
GA. It was disposed as surplus on Oct. 12, 1944 at Ponca City, OK. It was modified
for civilian use and given a N-number of N-4566 V and serial number of 2960. Any
help would greatly be appreciated in this restoration.

I want to return to active duty. I
went to a recruiter in my home town, because I had only been out of the Air Force
for little over a year. I was turned down because of my credit report. my son
almost died, so my wife stayed with him at the hospital with him. He had an extended
hospital stay so my wife lost her job. We did get behind on our bills, but straightened
it up with the money we had saved. There were three things on my credit report
1 was a mistake, and 1 was on there since I went into the air force the first
time. we did not know about any of these on there until my credit report was done.
The recruiter did not put this info in the waiver, and told me his commander did
not have time to hear our problems. I feel I have not been given a chance to prove
myself. The recruiter would not even give me an interview with the commander.
I want nothing more than to get back in to the air force. If there is anyone who
can help me please e-mail me at sarat94@hotmail.com
Thank
You,

Airmens Coin
I
have a friend who's son is in the Airforce and recently graduated boot camp. I
understand that after graduation each Airmen received a coin, called the Airmen's
coin. This young man was very proud of this coin. But one day someone I will call
him, low life stole the coin. I understand that these coins are next to impossible
to get. This young mans mother would love to be able to give her son another coin
for Christmas so I am writing to try and help her find one. I would be willing
to pay for one if it was available or if the Airforce had some way of getting
a coin to his mother and I can help in the endeavor, it would be my pleasure.
You see I am an Ex. Marine Sergeant and I understand how valuable that coin was
to that young Airman. If necessary I will write the commanding General of the
Airforce, but I hope I can receive the help threw this address. If you can help
or give me some advice please send it to this address. greamer@juno.com thank
you for your help. The young Airman in question is David Wierzchowski, He graduated
from Lakeland AFB. Texas. I thank you again for any help.

Hi.
My name is Trip Langhans. My dad (1LT Lester F. Langhans, Jr.) flew photo reconaissance
off Guam with the 3rd Photo between March 1945 and April 1946. His crew was one
of the planes that flew BDA after Nagasaki. I would like to be able to get photos
of the planes that he flew. The only picture we have that is identifiable is the
last one that he flew, but at age 21 he was not thinking to include the tail number,
so all we have is the crew and the nose art. He flew planes with the following
tail numbers:
42-84811 / 42-84813 / 42-84816 / 42-84829; Nagasaki mission
42-84851 / 42-84853 / 42-84856 / 42-84871 / 42-84900
I believe they
were all B-29-BW from the Boeing Wichita, Kansas plant or B-29-MO from the Omaha,
Nebraska plant.
If anyone has photos that can be e-mail, please send
to lester1sg@hotmail.com. If anyone has any information on how I can find photos
that actually identify planes by tail number, your help would be appreciated.
I have found hundreds of photos of planes from Tinian and Guam, but few are identifiable
by tail number. I would like to be able to collect these for my father while he
is still alive. If you have information or can be of help, I would sure appreciate
it and I know that my father would also. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, lester1sg@hotmail.com

Hello,
I'm
a 17 year old, senior that attends Valley Lutheran High School and I live in Saginaw,
Michigan. I've come to the decision that I would like to join the AF. I'm really
getting tired of high school and think that I'll totally slack off if I go to
college. I've already sat down with a recruiter (MSgt Brown) in my area and he
has given me a ton of information. I've already taken my ASVAB test (my QT score
was an 80).
I'm going down to Troy, MI to get my physical and
sign up on December 27, and I just wanted to know what the 'best' Air Force base
is. I'm from Michigan and I would like a base that is a bit warmer! I kind of
narrowed my search down and I think I would like to be stationed in Colorado,
Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, or North or South Carolina. If someone from
one of these bases could give me a little bit more info on the base itself and
the surrounding area It would be greatly appreciated.
Also,
I can't decide on what job to choose. I'm torn between 'Engineering' and 'Structural
Engineering'. I would also greatly appreciate it if someone could email me on
exactly what you do.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Hello, I'm
french and I'm 17 years old. In order to resolve a physics problem, I would like
to collect a lot of information about the B-17 (flying fortress) such as its mass,
its length, its acceleration, its top speed and especially its taking-off time,
because I would like to find physically how many meters are needed for a B-17
to take-off. That's why I ask you. I though that only the US air force could know
it. So :
mass :
top speed :
acceleration :
taking-off time :
minimal taking-off track distance :
plane length :
motor-power :
I
ask you, because I didn't find anything on boeing website. Thank you

I am trying to get
some information regarding two medallions that my mother gave to me after my father
passed away last April. My father's name was Frank Joseph Montalbano, Jr. However,
he normally went by Joe. To t he best of my knowledge, he was stationed in Naples,
Italy immediately af ter VE day. He was a corporal in the USAF.
My mother
gave me several Nazi medals, as well as some Italian coins from the early 1900's.
However, what has intrigued me the most are two medallions. The medallions are
an erect penis and testicles wi th outstretched eagle's wings connected where
the penis and testicles meet. It appears to be something meant to be worn around
the neck on a chain. I doubt that these medallions are neither USAF or German
ar my issue items. I don't know if this some type of group in his unit or just
something he picked up in Italy (or somewhere else). If any one out there has
a clue, I would certainly appreciate your help.

Anyone Know who Norman Byer should Contact?
I
saw a brief segment on Discovery channel this evening about a "WW-II military
plane" that was found in Panama. It referred to a crew of 3. According to
family reports, My uncle, John Kealiher, piloted an A-20 during WW-II. His group
(Squadren, I think) first flew to Cuba, on their way to Africa. The next stop
was to be in Brazil. John's plane had engine trouble on the way to Cuba and he
was delayed while a new engine was installed. He then left Cuba to rejoin his
group in Brazil for the flight to Africa. His plane was never heard from again
and never found in the subsequent search. Could the plane referred in the Discovery
piece be John's? If so, I can help the USAF contact his living relatives. Please
check the records and let me know via email.

Information
for Families of Dead Crewman - killed in a B-17 Flying Fortress training mission
on Aug. 24, 1943
My Brother Ed was killed in a B-17 Flying
Fortress training mission on Aug. 24, 1943 in Montana. I visited the crash site
54 years later and found many many small pieces of the aircraft and also found
my brother's dog tag. I have since done quite a lot of research on the accident
and have a lot of documents, pictures and misc. info. that I would love to share
with families of Ed's nine crew mates. Their names and hometowns (at the time
of the accident) are: 1: William L. Luedke of Harbor City, Calif. 2: Michael F.
Rodgers of Holidays Cove, W.Va. 3: Walter L. Eckerman of Clairton, Iowa. 4: James
W. Lynch of Minneapolis, Minn. 5: Henry J., Downs of Amesburg, Mass. 6: Morris
S. Kinkaid of Fayette, W.Va. 7: Cecil L. Nolen or Nolan of Neffs, Ohio. 8: John
Dlouhy of Houston, Texas. 9: Charles F. Burnett of Etowah, Tenn. There was no
further info available at the time. Please contact me and I would be more than
happy to share all my findings, free of charge, any one who might be related to
these fellows or be just a friend.
Thank You

Hello
my name is Joe Peluso.I''ve been out for two years. I'm looking for the words
for the
Air Force Song. thanx
I
am interested in finding out did NASA have any role at all in developing GPS or
was this entirely done by the AIRFORCE?
Also
what year or years did GPS actually come out instead of the 1995 available to
the public date. I have seen it suggested that the airforce built it in the 70's
my question is what year exactly?
Sincerely,
Hal Mitchell Holzman

Hello,
I am very intersted in joing a branch of the services, but I'm not sure which
to join. I have been told the Air force is a good place for me, because I am intersted
in meteorology and such programs, also the band. I was wondering if there was
someone I could talk to about this online, because I am a junior in High School,
but the Air force recruiter, doesn't come to my school very often. I have already
taken the ASVAB test though. Also I was wondering, if I'm living in Southern California,
where would I go to basic training at? Well anything you could tell me would be
a help, thank you for your time.
Sincerly
yours,
Katie McDade
